Done with demo? -at least for now!!

I spent most of the day yesterday tearing the carpet off the big stairs!  It was a giant pain in the bum.  Our garbage can is full of scraps now :)  But, I am happy with the results! 

I also found a fantastic (I am super hoping.) new entertainment console on craigslist!  We are going to pick it up tonight.  I have also been selling tons of stuff on craigslist, when you are a stay at home mom and working with a budget, you got to support your habit somehow!!  I am rocking the garage sale this weekend!

Tools needed for carpet removal: Hammer, flat head screwdriver, utility knife, cat's claw (not sure if that is what it's really called-Mr. TSL calls it that.) needle nose plyers.


Here is what the stairs looked like before we moved in:

The nasty carpet in the dining room is gone, did that last week!  The ceiling fan is gone and was replaced with my Pottery Barn Bellora Chandelier Knock-Off.

More Painted Stairs!!

OMG!!  I am so sick of looking at my stripped stairs.  If you remember my stairs look like this:

I am going to  pull the carpet off the big steps too and I am painting them green!  I know crazy, huh?  Well, eventually when budget permitting we will redo them to have nicer steps and risers.  But, for now, I would rather sweep the painted wood then try to drag the vac up the stairs to clean the steps....who am I kidding, I don't vac them very often. 

While blog-stalking searching for inspiration, I cam across these:

I love them and since the kitchen/dining room subfloor is being painted in a neutral tone, hopefully soon, these will be a fun pop of color!  I am painting the whole step, I don't have the patience time to tape off a runner.   I am adding something fun to the risers though.  Like these:

Stair Makeover Part 1

Our stairs and part of the wall next to the steps was covered in brown carpet....yuck!  I decided to pull it off with a little help on Monday.  I am not a fan of carpeted steps, although I am kind of nervous with the kids now hurting themselves on them. 

I hope for them to look like this when I get around to it:

These are my favorite, but with 3 kids, a dog, and a huge extended family (I love to entertain!).  I think they would be too much upkeep for me.  They are amazing though! Donna at Funky Junk Interiors
