rust buckets to rustic beauties :)

I have always wanted some old metal chairs.  I love them, they remind me of a time when things were simpler and you sat on your front porch until the fireflies came out.  I look for them at flea markets and garage sales, but they were always too pricey or there was something else I had to spend money on.

I have mentioned in older posts that the previous owners left a lot of their stuff for us.  Some of it was hauled to the dump and some of it was treasures waiting for a face lift.  Mr. TSL was perusing the property after purchasing and found a pair of these beauties on the back part of the land.

I new I could redo them.....eventually.  It's been a while and I have many many other projects going on right now.  Redoing a table, a bathroom remodel, painting the dining room and Hayley and Audrey's room....the list is much longer, but if you are anything like me you have become bored with what I'm doing and have said, "Come on, show me the chair redo!"

Or you have already scrolled down to look at the after and like me if it's good then I'll read the post! ;)

Anyhow, on my millionth trip to Lowe's for a random thing for the bathroom remodel I saw the clearance section.  After looking at most of it and deciding I need nothing, I saw spray paint- I love spray paint!  It was all Rustoleum and had 2 colors.  A reddish color that looked like my mom's tomato soup with milk in it---yum grill cheese and tomato soup---back to the paint.  While I love tomato soup, the color was eh.  Then behind it I saw the color Night Tide- it just sounds lovely doesn't it?!?  They had 3 cans marked down from $4.24 to $1.06!  SOLD!

I new exactly what it was getting used for!

After painting one, I learned some things:
1. Always take off your wedding ring when painting!
2. Little drafts of wind while spray painting SUCK!
3. Not to hold the can in the same spot for too long, short even stroked work best. That's what she said!
4. Always change in to paint clothes, even when you think you won't get paint on you!
5. When you breathe blue paint, you get blue boogers!

After the first chair most of my exposed skin looked like Smurfette!

Morgan told me I looked bruised and then my parents stopped by to visit and dad said I looked like I belonged on Avatar.  Yes, my right arm may be a little blue :)

So after some spray paint and one and a half cans of Rustoleum's Night Tide, they look like this:

So much better!!

Twinkle Twinkle little seahorse :)

I made some fabulous art for the bathroom out of pallet pieces!!

First, I butted them up together and glued them with wood glue.  I used boxes of tile as "clamps" and totally forgot to take a pic of this step!

Then I stained it with some stain I had in the garage:

Remember my inspiration for the front bathroom?  I had this seahorse:

I copied it into the paint program and split it into quadrants to draw it.

Then took some chalk and outlined the seahorse on my pallet wood:
Then filled it in with white paint!
I love my seahorse :)

Plus it's total cost ZERO DOLLARS!!

I've been super busy!

I have been working on a ton of stuff this week!!  I can't wait to reveal it next week :)  So for fun sake and the fact that I have not hardly blogged at all this week.  Let's look at some inspiration :)

The lovely homeowners left us a ton of stuff, most of it junk that had to be hauled to the dump.  But, some of it's super cool!  Mr. TSL was cleaning out his big garage and happened upon 2 old paddles-I have big plans for these!!

He also found an old Emerson Fan!  I brought it in to clean it and cut the cord off- it was going to be more of a decorative element than a working fan.  Before I cut the cord, I plugged it in.  IT WORKS!!!  I tis a really good fan, so now it has more than just a decorative purpose!!  :)

We also scored other cool stuff, more on that next week.

Remember how I said I was going with green dining chairs?  I have been perusing Pinterest and came upon one of my favorite blogs pictures, you know what blog it is.  Don't you?  That's right it's Layla's blog at The Lettered Cottage!

And guess what?  She has a green dining chair!  LOVE IT :)

My painted stairs are such a hit!! Check out all the love!!

I love blogging!  I love all the comments that come in and how lovely everyone is to each other! In a world that is sometimes to "Negative Nancy" (btw sorry, if your name is Nancy...it's a lovely name :) ), it's so nice to hear from all the "positive Patsy's"!!  Yes, I use these terms in my everyday life!

I have to thank all of these people, because I am so excited the stairs went over so well!!

I loved her fabulous comment that she was crushing on my stairs!  It's so nice to hear that other people crush on my stuff-because I TOTALLY CRUSH ON EVERYONE"S STUFF :)

Second, I was featured over at Sunshine and Chaucer!

Then fourth, Michelle over at The Lazy Novice Crafter awarded me the Versatile Blogger Award!

The tasks from the award are to:
  • Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their site in your original post.
  • Tell us seven things about yourself.
  • Pass along the award to 6 newly discovered bloggers.
  • Contact these bloggers and let them know they got this award.

Thank you Michelle!!!!

7 things about me:
1.  I have decorating ADD!  My house is a constant stream of a number of projects all at once :)

2. I tell the longest most drawn out stories EVER- if you weren't present during the event I am telling you a story about, you will feel like you were when I'm done!  I have actually had people tell me my own story as one of their own and they genuinely believe that it was their original story.  I am that good :)

3.  I love turtles :)  I have a lot of random little turtles around my house and Mr. TSL and I are turtle savers.  Yes, when you see the lunatic picking up the turtle out of the road while you are trying to hurriedly get some where-it's us!

4.  I love old rusty things that I can make into fabulous new decorations! My style is a miss mash of Old Farmhouse, beach cottage, and log cabin!

5. Jon Bon Jovi is my boyfriend!  No, he doesn't know it, but he is!!!!

6.  We recycle almost EVERYTHING.  When people ask why, I just reply, "I am saving the world silly!"  If everyone just recycled even a little the world would be a prettier place!

7. Last but not least, I love my family more than anything in the world!

Painted Stairwell and bathroom remodel part 1ish

We got so much done this weekend!!

Mr. TSL and my parents all had Friday off.  Because of this, I took the bull by the horns and dove in to the front bathroom remodel!   Then, let my decorating ADD kick in and worked on some other projects too!!

My mom painted the super scary, very vaulted, I'm not getting on the freakin' ladder, stairwell!  I couldn't figure out how she was going to paint up so high with a lack of scaffolding or the adjustable gorilla ladder.

Didn't have one of these :(

Here is the stairwell being painted!!
Here are some before pics of the stairwell:

Here is my super-cute-no-fear-having mom painting it:
It actually made me dizzy just looking up there while she did this!

The mess to the left of my dad is his contribution :)

Yes, that is the cinder block we used to hold the ladder at one point-I didn't get any pics of it in use because I may have been having a mini panic attack from the fact that she was so far up with no net or anything (but my dad) to break her fall!

I will post the after pics later this week because I have to touch up the blobs of paint I dripped on the stairs handing her the paint brush/roller/edger. :)

And now for the Bathroom Remodel Part 1ish
Looked like this before:
before we bought the house
You can read about my inspiration here.

I painted stripes in the bathroom before we removed the vanity, the old light and the toilet.  I am a little impatient :) So, I had to do a little paint work and patching-no biggie!

We took apart the old vanity and took out the old toilet with a little help from the girls :)
That's my girl!
Vanity is gone and the new one is a little smaller-have to fix the paint!
This is behind where the toilet was---YUCK!
The walls in this bathroom when we moved in were nasty!!  In an attempt to get by I had half a can of Stratton Blue left over from our old house's bathroom, so I painted it 3 days before Audrey was born while Mr. TSL was at work :)
We tore up the nasty old linoleum and decided on a tile pattern and rocked it out!

Hopefully we'll have the big reveal early next week!!  As for now, I have 2 little girls home from school and a baby that are beckoning my attention!
