need some sunshine.....

I am elbow deep in a giant mess in my kitchen.  Apparently, when your hubby brings home your countertop, a fire is lit under your ass to get the island painted.  Meaning, all the contents of the drawers, the drawers themselves, and the cabinet doors are all over my kitchen and dining room covered in primer waiting for the first coat of paint to happen at nap time today....  totally excited to wrap up this kitchen makeover.  It's getting close.

On a more depressing note, I am super sick of this friggin cold weather.  It was okay for a while.  Then we had a few days of 60s.  I cleaned out some gardens, started plotting outdoor adventures, then low and behold.   Boom.  More cold weather.  WTF.

To top off all the lack of spray painting weather, I am uber bummed that today my little brother left for his second tour in Afghanistan.  Yep, the shitty place with all the war and shit, you know the one who's higher ups are no longer telling us they will protect our troops on the border or something.  Yep that place.  I cry.  He lies and tells me he's going on vacation to Colorado and he'll see me in a year or so.  It's our thing. Blah.  He did get engaged the other day to a fabulous girl!  I have had the honor of being asked to plan their wedding for the 4th of July 2015.  So, I have immersed myself in the pinning of ideas for said wedding.  I am so excited to plan it!!! Thank God for the distraction of Pinterest!

I needed some sunshine and then I saw all of these....now I want yellow everything. :)

Black Laundry Room/ Pantry Reveal

Do you ever have a space that you can't find exactly what to do with it?  This was that space.  It's just the laundry room/pantry, but I see it all day sometimes.  You can see it as soon as you walk in the house and the pantry doors are always open, unless we are entertaining and they start out closed and end up open for the trash and recycle bins.  It needed to be a calm lovely space.

I looked at a billion pictures, I swear.  I pinned and searched and couldn't decide what to do.  Two and a half years later...still nasty.  Until, I came across this post by Dana at House Tweaking. She painted her laundry room/ dining area Besalt by Ace Hardware.  It is stunning....seriously if you haven't clicked that link, go now.  I'll wait................................ fan-freaking-tastic, right?!?!?  Her whole house is stunning and we have very similar taste.  Like I might want to attempt to copy her house, er I mean draw inspiration from her!

Okay, I'll get to the pictures now.

New floor is the same flooring that is in the newly redone entryway...which has been changed since I blogged it last week.  The kids kept smashing their fingers in the cedar chest to get out their shoes.  Later on that.

The white washer and dryer don't even bother me anymore.  I do want new one's but these do the job and when presented with the opportunity to buy new one's I would rather use the money for other projects!

I painted over the electrical box because it was a giant eye sore and you hardly notice it now!!:)

Splash of Red and a Visit from a Turtle :)

Original title for the post: Splash of red and a little visitor.....then I reread it in my head and it sounded like I was announcing getting my monthly friend!  Gross.

After the remodel of the front bathroom, I recently decided that it needed some color and red it was!  I picked up 3 red towels from  Target...they are super soft and bright fire engine red.  However, they suck because the leave red lint all over you when you get out of the shower.  Even after being washed like 10 times!!

I also picked up some vintage badminton rackets at the GeeDub (Goodwill) for 99 cents each, they have the perfect chippy red paint on them and found  home in the potty as well!

Then I switched up some art and added this:

I know the green floor in the kitchen is looking a little shabby and not in a shabby chic way :(

I am totally in love with the mini transformation of this bathroom, while the master bath gets a huge transformation.  Here is the latest pic of the floor...it's ready for tile tonight!

Now for the visit from the turtle..... we are turtle savers here.  We stop our vehicle on the side of the road and always help the turtle to the side of the road he was pointing.  Yes, I have gotten peed on doing this and no, it's not always safe, but we love turtles!  I would have a bumper sticker that said, "I brake for Turtles!"  if I didn't think bumper stickers were grotesque.  

 So, on the last day of school for the girls we were pleasantly surprised to get a visit from this guy on our porch.  Before I could grab the camera he was trying to hide with our concrete turtle Myrtle.

red door and christmas decor!

when we moved in our dining room looked like this:

that door was flat on one side and paneled on the other. weird.  anyhow, i decided i wanted to put in a door with a window (our house super lacks natural light and windows.  in fact, the 2 windows in the dining room lead out to the sun porch...and they are too far apart and really close to the door/wall.

i digress, mr.tsl and i were at habitat for humanity and i saw this door:

for what?!?  $10, that's right $10 and it comes with it's own security system:

i feel safer already.  if a bad guy broke in to the garage, went through another locked door and managed to get to this door he would be met with the wrath of this sticker.  an obvious blocker of all things bad.

mr.tsl put the door up for me and i asked for your opinion...red door or black door.  you all picked red, just like i wanted you too!  you must really know me :)

i am not going to lie to you. this project sucked.  i primed the door and started painting.

let's talk about that paint.  so, i head to wal-mart for groceries and stop off in the paint dept.  paint dept guy knows me.  he's at lunch, sporting goods guy is there.  he doesn't know paint very well. or at all.
i hand him a can of banner red spray paint and tell him i need a quart of paint color matched to it.

he looked at me like i was crazy and said "you know this is paint right?" {whilst, holding the can of spray paint}.  i just said "yes, but i need brushable paint, i can't spray paint an interior door."  what i wanted to say was, "no, really? do i look like a f#$%ing retard!?!"

then i had to explain to him how to use the color match machine...woohoo he did it.  then he grabs the paint and starts mixing.  at this point audrey is climbing out of the cart and pulling all the leaves off the $3 poinsettias i have. irritating.

i say, "i'm going to go get some other stuff, i'll  be right back"  when i get back the paint is done and more mauve than red.  he just looks at it and says "oops, i have to get back to sporting goods, i have a customer."

i love dealing with morons.  as i am walking to the grocery section paint guy is coming out of lunch, i explain and he says "did you know krylon makes a banner red you can brush on?" then gets me the can. amazing, the exact color i wanted and it's $5 cheaper than any quart can!

i buy my $5 can of paint and get to work....i am not kidding you it has 8 coats of red paint and i am pretty sure it needs more and am even more sure it's not getting them.

it's like the ugly girl that is far away looks okay, but upon closer inspection is not all that easy on the eyes.
